BIM Is Also Automation – Key Takeaways from the “Architect–Programmer” Workshop
On January 15, 2026, I had the pleasure of leading a workshop for the BIM Student Research Group at Cracow University of Technology. The session focused on the evolving role of the architect-programmer and how automation is reshaping everyday design work.
We discussed:
- how BIM goes beyond modeling and becomes a tool for managing information,
- where automation truly saves time (macros, scripts, APIs),
- how AI supports design and data analysis,
- and why Python and C# are becoming practical skills for architects.
One particularly inspiring aspect was seeing how naturally students are already thinking about automation at the university level. For many of them, writing scripts, building tools, or integrating workflows is not something “extra” - it’s becoming part of their mindset as future architects. This signals a clear generational shift: the next wave of designers will not only use software, but actively shape it to fit their needs.

Big thanks to the BIM Student Research Group for the invitation and the great energy during the session!
