Boxer 1.2

While nowadays everyone can build tools with AI, I still keep upgrading my own tools. Today, I’d like to share the latest version of my Revit plugin, Boxer. It comes with new features: an upgraded BX, sketching section boxes directly in 3D, and many more improvements (small and bigger).
Feel free to watch the video (test the tool, link in the comments) while I share some information that might help you when coding similar things with the Revit API:
-
DirectContext3D - A super useful API for visualizing things in 3D in Revit. Use it wisely, as it comes with a number of challenges and limitations. For some parts of Boxer, I’m still cheating a bit by visualizing masses instead. I might change them at one moment but Im proud of the code I wrote and things I learned while doing it. And it works well!
-
WPF - I’ve completely switched to it from WinForms. Yes, it was worth the effort. All my dialogs look much better now! In the AI era, learning what is possible is often more difficult than learning how to do it. I think learning what not to do is even more important! So understanding the framework and the challenges that come with it helps a lot - Yes, spending weekends with Udemy still helps a lot!
I’m curious to learn what other obstacles you face while working in 3D, so I can consider implementing solutions for them in future versions of Boxer!
I still spend a majority of my time deep in the trenches of coordination meetings, design changes, and construction sites. Every improvement in Boxer comes from my own experience or from feedback and ideas shared by users, colleagues, and friends.
